New Moon in Capricorn 26 Capricorn 54
6:17 p.m. Pacific Time
16 January 2018
This New Moon puts both the Sun and Moon in Capricorn and happens on what is called the safety and security axis (with the opposite sign, Cancer – where the Full Moon was on 1 Jan 2018). This Moon asks us to look at our potential and decide what may be real for us in the year ahead. January is the month that will determine the path for 2018. It culminates in a Full Moon Eclipse in Leo on 31 January 2018 (more about that in my Eclipse post).
The Sun and Moon conjuncts Venus in Capricorn asking: is this relationship real, is it here for the long haul? And…sextiles (providing opportunities) Mars for new ones that are real. The Sun and Moon square Uranus says: I want to do it my way and let’s go of unnecessary baggage. Uranus will provide a lightning strike of illumination and enlightenment that will be difficult to avoid. Mercury in Capricorn will conjunct Black Moon Lilith suggesting angry (rightfully so) women speaking about how those in power misbehaved (#metoo continues). It may also herald new laws and structures to protect those folks from abuse. Mars in Scorpio trines Chiron providing healing energy from the depths of what seemed so full of despair. Hope and faith are words that come to mind as positive influences on real outcomes that bring us happiness.
Jupiter in Scorpio sextiles Pluto in Capricorn setting up energy fields of opportunities to transform that which was dark and hidden to the likes of a Phoenix rising from the ashes! There is a plethora of planets in Capricorn all activating the need for new structures and new rules and regulations. It also asks us to work hard and have integrity. Capricorn is not an emotional sign; it is the goat climbing to the top of the mountain. Time to set goals and intentions for the 2018 year ahead and ‘be prepared’. For Capricorn Sun and Ascendant, this is your official start to your year; you may be taking on new responsibilities and working hard but, not without rewards.

This is all about the collective (that refers to all of us) being receptive and actively seeking a higher power, source, god. My suggestion would be that as part of setting goals you also set a spiritual goal that involves connecting with source; mediation in nature may be a good one for instance.
